Dan Marina

The Canadian Institute of Forestry and Forestry Research Partnership is pleased to welcome Dan Marina to our team as Extension Project Coordinator. Dan is currently enrolled in the Masters of Forest Conservation program at the University of Toronto and will be working with us for his summer internship at the Canadian Ecology Centre in Mattawa.  He is thrilled to be given the opportunity to put his knowledge and expertise to use to help the CIF and FRP continue their work in developing and promoting sound forestry practices in Ontario and beyond.

He previously worked extensively with the Niagara Restoration Council to develop a restoration plan for an Ontario Power Generation hydro corridor.  He has also worked with the Royal Botanical Gardens to conduct habitat surveys on salamander breeding pools. Since 2005, he has worked part-time at a local hospital in Waterloo, ON, assisting with patient care by transporting patients and delivering vital laboratory and blood clinic products and hospital equipment. Dan has a Bachelor of Environmental Studies with honours in geography, a specialization in biophysical systems, and a minor in history. He has also obtained a post-graduate certificate in Ecosystem Restoration from Niagara College Canada.

Dan’s passion lies in forest ecology, so you will often find him wandering the woods with field guides in hand. Otherwise, you will see him participating in a number of other outdoor activities such as hiking, canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, and camping. As an active member of the CIF and Society for Ecological Restoration, Dan also spends much of his time involved in community outreach in various parts of Ontario, doing what he can to help promote and conserve our precious natural heritage!
